Guest Musicians

Ian Lewerissa (Guitar) was born in Rabaul, PNG, and has 30 years experience in music. He has toured with American Blues legend, Bo Didley, in Australia. He performed with New Zealand band, Coventree; Extensions in PNG, Sydney’s Sound Machine and the Trinidad Calypso Band. Ian was Manager of Keynote Music House (PNG) and now works in Cairns at Pacific Music. He makes regular appearances with local acts; Soul Kitchen, Swinging Alley Cats and Juice.

Tom See Poy (Keyboards) has an extensive background in music over 20 years. He has studied with pianist, Mark Isaacs and singer, Kerry Biddel, and has performed with international Artists, including; Kenny Barron, Gene Harris, Tommy Emmanuel, Don Burrows and James Morrison. He has performed with Galapagos Ducks and different local acts in Cairns, including numerous recording projects. Tom had worked overseas and now teaches music at the TAFE college in Cairns and often plays with the local Latin band, Heat.

William Kepa (drums/bass/tech) is from Yam and Darnley in the Torres Strait Islands and regularly plays in the Cairns, Queensland music ‘gig’ circuit as a Drummer/Bass guitarist. William has performed with David Hudson, Seaman Dan and Briscoe Sisters. He has been involved in numerous recordings at Pegassus Studios.

Peter Bishop (Trumpet) is a well-known international musician who was a member of the popular Sydney-band “Dynamic Hypnotics” in the 80’s. He has performed with many international and local Australian acts, including symphony orchestras.

Phil Bywater (saxophone) has been performing professionally, leading and coordinating ensembles since 1989. He is one of the finest saxophonists in Australia. His experience is diverse, encompassing jazz and world music, free improv, reggae, funk, rock and contemporary classical music. He has toured the USA, Europe and Asia, and has played in most Australian music festivals. Phil currently performs with a range of ensembles, including his own bands Fallingwater Trio, Big Fela (a tribute to Fela Kuti), Phil Bywater’s Buried Treasure, Adam Simmons’ Toy Band, and Tania Bosak’s Velika Buka.

Mal Webb (trombone) a vocal adventurer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Melbourne. He performs solo and with his bands Oxo Cubans and Totally Gourdgeous. He’s worked with Lano and Woodley, Bomba, John Butler Trio and The Cat Empire. He’s appeared on Rove, Spicks and Specks and The Footy Show.
